Editor’s Letter

Luxury means different things to different people. For some, it’s fine linen and a glass of Bollinger. For others, it’s time. Time to slow down, to reconnect, to breathe. In this issue of Journey Beyond magazine, we explore how luxury isn’t just about what’s provided, but how it makes you feel. For many of us, it’s found in the rare experiences we don’t get to enjoy every day, like dining at a chef-hatted restaurant or sleeping in a luxurious train suite. On page 46 we take you inside the highly anticipated Aurora Australis suites: an exceptional new class of train travel never before seen in Australia.
We spoke with Woods Bagot principal and interior designer, Rosina Di Maria, about what luxury means in an Australian context and the intricacies of bringing Journey Beyond’s vision for the exclusive suites to life.
For those who, like me, feel a pull toward wildlife experiences, Monarto Safari Resort might just be your dream escape. Think African-style game drives, just 60 minutes from Adelaide, and sophisticated accommodation that puts you right in the heart of it all – minus the jet lag. We explore this new addition to Journey Beyond’s growing portfolio on page 28.
And if, like many, you’ve been chasing the elusive art of the reset, you’ll find inspiration on page 22, where writer Catherine Best speaks with a psychologist about the rise of the JOMO (joy of missing out) travel trend. Whether it’s a barefoot walk from your Sal Salis tent to the shoreline, or the untamed beauty of Horizontal Falls, these are the kinds of journeys that remind us to breathe again. However you define luxury, whether it’s a glass of wine under the stars, the hush of a remote lodge, or simply having nowhere to be but here. Whatever form it takes, I hope you find a little of it in the pages.
